WEATHER CROP ADVISOR

Palakkad, often referred to as the "Gateway to Kerala," is a region blessed with fertile land and abundant natural resources. Agriculture plays a pivotal role in the livelihoods of the people of Palakkad, making it essential to optimize crop selection and planting times. Over the years, climate change and unpredictable weather patterns have posed significant challenges to traditional farming practices. According to preliminary estimates from the agricultural department, this season is expected to see a minimum 30 percent decrease in paddy cultivation due to a deficit in rainfall this year. There are many situations when farmers cultivate wrong crop unaware of the weather conditions.

Challenge:

The challenge we face in Palakkad's agricultural sector is two-fold. First, climate variability and changing weather patterns have made it increasingly difficult for farmers to predict the ideal time for planting specific crops. The traditional knowledge that has guided generations of farmers is becoming less reliable in the face of climate uncertainty. Second, limited access to comprehensive and up-to-date weather data and the lack of user-friendly tools for data analysis make it challenging for farmers to make informed decisions about crop selection and planting times. These challenges, if left unaddressed, can result in reduced yields, financial losses, and food security risks for the region.

We Propose:

Our solution is to develop a user-friendly and data-driven application that leverages historical weather data and predictive modeling. By analyzing years of weather data from various sources our application will provide farmers in Palakkad with valuable insights. These insights will include recommendations on which crops are most suitable for planting during specific seasons, along with optimal planting dates and climate-smart agricultural practices.
